The Barbican Conservatory offers a striking combination: tropical planting within one of London’s most distinctive architectural settings. It is a compelling choice for couples who want greenery and a city wedding to belong to the same day.
A garden celebration with an urban edge
The conservatory houses a rich collection of plants, while the adjoining Garden Room provides a separate space for the reception. That change of setting gives the celebration a natural progression. The real strength is the relationship between foliage, glass and the Barbican’s architecture; restrained styling can allow those ingredients to do much of the visual work.
Making room for photographs
I would balance wider photographs that show the planting with closer pictures of the ceremony and guests. Glasshouses can have uneven light, so portrait positions should respond to the conditions rather than a fixed list of backdrops. A short architectural portrait outside the green setting could add contrast, subject to access and permission.
