London hotel weddings · A guide by Adrian Mazur

A London address.
A day that feels like you.

A grand ballroom, a garden behind a townhouse or the city skyline beyond the windows. A hotel wedding in London can take many different forms.

Looking for the best hotel wedding venues in London? This guide brings together eight distinctive options, from Claridge’s and The Savoy to Town Hall Hotel and Bingham Riverhouse. The aim is to help you find a setting that works for your people, your plans and the photographs you want to remember the day by.

“Best” depends on the wedding you want. Use the shortlist to compare character, named spaces and practical questions, then arrange viewings with the hotels that feel right.

Venue information checked 27 October 2026. Capacities below refer to particular rooms and formats. Confirm your date, current arrangements and final layout directly with each hotel.

Why choose a hotel wedding in London?

A hotel can simplify the shape of the day: somewhere to get ready, rooms for the ceremony and reception, and a place to stay afterwards. That can be especially useful when guests are travelling into London or when you would rather spend the day together than move between several venues.

But “everything under one roof” still needs a plan. Check when your preparation room is available, which areas are private, how rooms are reset and whether guests can reach every part of the celebration comfortably. A hotel with several beautiful rooms may still need a carefully timed journey between them.

The photographs in this guide are from Adrian Mazur’s wedding portfolio and illustrate his photography style. They are not presented as photographs of the individual hotels. Follow the official hotel links for current venue imagery and room details.

Mayfair · Central London

Claridge’s

Worth exploring forArt Deco glamour and a grand celebration
Spaces to discussBallroom, French Salon and Drawing Room
Published guest numbersBallroom: 240 for dinner · French Salon: 96 for dinner
Your next stepRequest a wedding layout and current quote

Claridge’s is a starting point for couples drawn to the scale and detail of a classic Mayfair hotel. Its restored Art Deco Ballroom offers a very different setting from the French Salon and adjoining Drawing Room, so choose the room before choosing the styling. A large ballroom and a more intimate salon can create very different wedding days, even at the same address.

Planning & photography: For photography, I would think about the balance between the room’s geometry and the people in it. A short portrait route agreed with the hotel can give you architectural variety while leaving the reception at the centre of the day.

Before you book: Ask for the wedding layout, including the dance floor and entertainment, rather than treating a dinner capacity as a dinner-and-dancing capacity.

Bethnal Green · East London

Town Hall Hotel

Worth exploring forCivic architecture with a more individual city atmosphere
Spaces to discussCouncil Chamber, De Montfort Suite and Bethnal Hall
Published guest numbersWedding page: ceremony for up to 100 · confirm each room layout
Your next stepRequest a wedding layout and current quote

Town Hall Hotel offers a different kind of hotel wedding: a former civic building with Art Deco character in Bethnal Green. The Council Chamber brings a distinctive sense of occasion, while the hotel’s wedding offering combines it with the De Montfort Suite for drinks and Bethnal Hall for dinner and the evening. It is worth exploring if you like a venue with strong architecture and a clear journey between spaces.

Planning & photography: My planning priority would be to keep that journey easy for everyone. Allow a little time for guests to settle into each space and choose a few portrait locations close to the celebration rather than trying to photograph every corner.

Before you book: Walk through the exact sequence of rooms and ask which shared areas are available for portraits. The published ceremony number is not a wedding-breakfast capacity.

London Bridge · Southwark

Shangri-La The Shard, London

Worth exploring forSkyline views and a contemporary London setting
Spaces to discussRen, Li and Yi event rooms
Published guest numbersRen: 100 banquet · Li: 30 banquet · Yi: 10 banquet
Your next stepRequest a wedding layout and current quote

If the skyline is part of your idea of a London wedding, Shangri-La The Shard offers a particularly clear direction. Its private event rooms bring the city into the background through floor-to-ceiling windows. The published room chart distinguishes Ren, Li and Yi, making this an option to discuss for different guest counts rather than assuming a sky-high wedding must be a large one.

Planning & photography: Strong window light and reflections need a considered approach. I would plan around the position of the couple, the time of day and the room’s lighting, so the people remain the focus alongside the view.

Before you book: Ask which views belong to your actual room and layout. The banquet figures here describe seating formats; ceremony, dinner and party arrangements need separate confirmation.

Soho · West End

Ham Yard Hotel

Worth exploring forColour, design and a playful evening celebration
Spaces to discussRooftop garden, private event rooms and The Croc
Published guest numbersCapacity by named space and wedding format: ask the events team
Your next stepRequest a wedding layout and current quote

Ham Yard Hotel suits couples who want their hotel wedding to have a strong design personality. The Soho setting combines distinctive interiors with a secluded rooftop garden and The Croc, a space with a 1950s bowling alley, bar and dance floor. Firmdale lists Ham Yard among its licensed ceremony venues. The interesting question is how those different spaces might fit your version of the day.

Planning & photography: A few bold backgrounds can be plenty. I would use colour and pattern selectively, then keep room for simple photographs of conversation, reactions and the movement of the party.

Before you book: A rooftop, bowling alley or cinema is not automatically included in a wedding booking. Confirm private access, timings, seasonal arrangements and any extra hire before building the day around one feature.

The Savoy

Worth exploring forA landmark hotel with a wide choice of celebration rooms
Spaces to discussLancaster Ballroom, River Room and private dining rooms
Published guest numbersLancaster: 280 dinner dance in the current room chart · confirm your plan
Your next stepRequest a wedding layout and current quote

The Savoy is worth considering when you want a hotel that can offer different scales of celebration. The wedding selection ranges from the Lancaster Ballroom and River Room to smaller private spaces such as Gondoliers and Princess Ida & Patience. That choice matters more than the headline size of the hotel: the right room should feel comfortable for your actual guests and the way you want to celebrate.

Planning & photography: I would plan the gallery around the atmosphere of your chosen rooms rather than a long list of hotel landmarks. For larger celebrations, a clear family-photo plan helps protect time for the drinks reception.

Before you book: The Savoy’s pages show several maximum figures for different formats. Request a dated floor plan for your ceremony, tables, band or DJ and dance floor; a reception maximum is not a seated wedding capacity.

The Goring

Worth exploring forA smaller celebration with classic interiors
Spaces to discussGarden Room and other private rooms
Published guest numbersGarden Room: 44 for lunch or dinner · 100 for a reception
Your next stepRequest a wedding layout and current quote

The Goring is an option for couples looking beyond the ballroom format. Its wedding offering includes licensed ceremonies and personalised dining arrangements, with bedrooms available for guests. The Garden Room’s published lunch-and-dinner capacity provides a useful starting point for a smaller wedding, while other private rooms can suit a different size or format. Discuss the actual experience you want rather than simply choosing the largest space.

Planning & photography: For an intimate celebration, I would keep portraits and group photographs close to the gathering. Small weddings often benefit from a calm pace and time to photograph the connections around the table.

Before you book: The official Garden Room page states that the room is not wheelchair accessible. Discuss your guests’ requirements and the complete route with the team before shortlisting it.

Richmond · South West London

Bingham Riverhouse

Worth exploring forA riverside house-party atmosphere
Spaces to discussGarden Rooms, riverside terrace and garden
Published guest numbersUp to 90 seated · up to 150 for an informal occasion
Your next stepRequest a wedding layout and current quote

Bingham Riverhouse is a different kind of London hotel choice, with the river rather than the West End setting the mood. Its wedding spaces are downstairs in the Garden Rooms, opening towards the riverside terrace and garden. The venue also offers the possibility of taking over the house. It is worth exploring when you like the practicality of a hotel but picture a celebration that feels closer to a gathering in a house by the Thames.

Planning & photography: A short outdoor portrait route could give the gallery a different pace without taking you away for long. I would leave room in the plan for weather changes and make sure the indoor gathering works just as well.

Before you book: Richmond is within Greater London, but it is a different journey from a central hotel. Confirm what is private to your booking, room availability, arrival arrangements and transport at the end of the night.

South Kensington · West London

Number Sixteen

Worth exploring forA townhouse wedding with a garden connection
Spaces to discussOrangery, private terrace and garden setting
Published guest numbersIntimate weddings: confirm capacity for the exact room and format
Your next stepRequest a wedding layout and current quote

Number Sixteen is a useful alternative if a large hotel reception feels too formal for your plans. Its light-filled Orangery overlooks a private garden in South Kensington, and the hotel offers exclusive hire for wedding celebrations, private dinners and receptions. Firmdale also lists it among its licensed ceremony venues. The appeal is the relationship between a smaller interior and the greenery outside.

Planning & photography: I would look for a simple portrait route that uses the room’s light and the garden connection, subject to the agreed access. A few thoughtful settings can give an intimate wedding gallery plenty of variety.

Before you book: Ask for a layout for your actual guest count and confirm the indoor alternative to any terrace or garden plans. Exclusive hire of an event space is not necessarily a whole-hotel buyout.

Eight questions before booking a hotel wedding.

  1. Which rooms are actually ours? Ask about the ceremony, drinks, dinner and evening separately. Check whether corridors, gardens, terraces and portrait locations remain shared with hotel guests.
  2. What does the complete quote include? Compare hire, minimum spend, menus, drinks, staffing, furniture, VAT and any service charges. Add accommodation and entertainment before comparing totals.
  3. How will the room feel at our guest count? Request the real table plan with the aisle, musicians and dance floor included. A standing reception number tells you little about a seated dinner.
  4. When can we get ready? Standard check-in may be later than the start of wedding preparations. Agree access the night before or early in the morning, including room for clothes, hair, makeup and photographs.
  5. What happens between the ceremony and dinner? A room reset can create a natural portrait window, but guests still need somewhere comfortable to gather. Allow time for lifts, stairs and moving larger groups.
  6. What is the indoor alternative? A rooftop or garden is a lovely possibility, but the wet-weather space should work for the same guest list and still feel like part of your wedding.
  7. What does the evening allow? Check music, sound limits, supplier access, finish times and which spaces are licensed for the activities you want. Confirm arrangements before booking entertainment.
  8. Can everyone move around comfortably? Walk the full guest route, including toilets, lifts, entrances and transport pick-up. Discuss specific access needs directly with the hotel.

A photographer’s view

Beautiful rooms.
Space for real moments.

Hotel wedding photography is about more than recording the room. The setting gives the gallery its sense of place; the people give it its meaning. I look for the conversations before the ceremony, the reactions around a table and the moments that happen while you are enjoying the day.

For preparations, a window and a little clear space can make a suite easier to photograph. It helps to keep one corner free of bags and packaging while allowing everyone to feel at home in the room. There is no need for the whole morning to look like a styled shoot.

Portraits can be a short part of the day. An agreed route through a few locations is usually more useful than a long list of hotel features. We can work with the available light, use the architecture where it adds something and return you to the reception.

For dinner and the evening, I adapt to the room rather than expecting it to remain bright all day. Available light and carefully used flash can each have a place, depending on the scene and venue permissions.

A little clarity

London hotel wedding FAQs.

Which are the best hotel wedding venues in London?

The best choice depends on your guest count and priorities. This shortlist covers grand hotels, distinctive city interiors and smaller garden or riverside settings. Start with the named room and the type of celebration you want, then compare current proposals.

Can we have a small wedding in a London hotel?

Yes. Smaller private rooms and townhouse hotels can be worth exploring. Consider Number Sixteen, The Goring’s private rooms, Bingham Riverhouse and the smaller spaces within larger hotels. Ask for a layout and any minimum spend for your actual numbers.

Is a hotel wedding cheaper than hiring a separate venue?

There is no reliable rule. A hotel may combine several services, while another venue may let you select more suppliers separately. Compare the complete cost of the day, including food, drinks, staffing, accommodation and extras, rather than only the headline hire figure.

Can the ceremony and reception happen at the same hotel?

Many hotels offer licensed ceremony spaces and reception rooms. Confirm the particular room, availability and ceremony arrangements with the venue, and ask who handles each booking. The sequence of spaces may involve a room reset or a move between floors.

Are guest bedrooms included?

Sometimes a proposal includes a room or suite for the couple, but guest accommodation is not automatically part of event hire. Ask about room allocations, rates, check-in times and who is responsible for booking and payment.

What should we check for a rooftop or garden wedding?

Confirm seasonal access, exclusive use, an indoor alternative, accessibility and any sound or finish-time restrictions. Ask whether the outdoor area is included in the quote or hired separately.

How much time should we allow for photographs?

We can plan a manageable portrait window and a clear family-photo list around your priorities. The route through the hotel, light, ceremony time and size of the groups all matter. I aim to leave you plenty of time to enjoy the reception.

Still choosing your London venue?

For a more intimate shortlist, explore small London wedding venues. If greenery and glass are part of your plans, browse conservatory wedding venues in London. For historic character with a different atmosphere, see my barn wedding photography guide.
